General of Communication - Secretariat General of Information EMOTION PICTURES Documentary and Disability 1st International Festival – Athens 2007 Call for Entries 1. The Secretariat General of Communication - Secretariat General of Information, in collaboration with the Greek Film Centre and within the framework of the annual international conference “People with Disabilities and Mass Media” is establishing an annual International Documentary Festival in Athens with documentary films focusing exclusively on issues of disability. 2. The Festival’s aim is to promote the further awareness, acceptance and integration of disabled people and to encourage film-makers, disabled or not, to take an active interest in this area and address the widest possible public. 3. The Documentary and Disability: 1st International Festival – Athens 2007 will take place in June 2007 in Athens, at the same time as the 2nd International Conference “People with Disabilities and Mass Media”. 4. The Jury will award the following 5 prizes: I. First Prize for Best Documentary Film II. Second Prize for Best Documentary Film III. Prize for originality and innovative direction IIII. Prize for technical and artistic merit IV. Special Jury Prize All prizes carry a cash award of 20,000 euros, which will be equally shared by producer and director. 5. Candidates will be selected by the Festival Administration, and all entries must fulfill the following requirements: • Their content must be strictly on the subject of disability. • There should be no prior Greek television broadcast of entries or prior release on video or/and DVD in Greece. • Their production date must be after 01/01/2004. • They must be available in Digital Beta for the official screening. • They should be available in an English version (subtitled or dubbed). • Limit of one entry per director. 6. Interested filmmakers are requested to submit the attached entry form, also available on the website of the festival (www.ameamedia.gr). Along with the entry form, candidates are requested to submit a copy of the documentary film in DVD format. Entry forms must be signed by both producer and director of the documentary. Participants are also requested to provide the following, in a digital format: • A synopsis of the documentary in Greek or in English. • At least two still photos in print quality from the film and one photo of the film director. • The dialogue list or narration in Greek (for documentaries filmed in Greek) or in English (for documentaries filmed in languages other than Greek). • The director’s filmography • CVs of director and producer • Promotional material (press cuttings, posters, photographs) The deadline for the receipt of entry submissions is 30/4/2007, at the following address: Emotion Pictures Greek Film Centre Kaukasou 134 Kipseli 11363 Athens Greece +30 210 8233161 Entries should be clearly marked: for non-commercial use. Confirmation of receipt of entries will be sent by email. 7. Entry submission costs (postage/ courier) are borne by the entrant, while insurance costs (storage of documentary copies at Festival’s headquarters) are borne by the Festival. 8. The Festival reserves the right to keep in its archive submitted film copies, as well as screen them for non-commercial purposes (e.g. at schools), with the proviso of prior notification of their director and producer. 9. The Festival maintains the right to use photos and screen excerpts (up to 3 minutes long) in order to promote the film and the Festival. 10. Participants agree that the selected documentaries will be subtitled in Greek by Festival organizers. 11. Entries cannot be withdrawn from the Festival following their selection. 12. Completion and signature of the entry form indicates the applicants’ consent to the Festival rules and regulations. |

Friends!!! We would like to inform you that the 13th International Film Festival "ETIUDA&ANIMA 2006" takes place in Poland, Cracow, between 17th – 23th November, 2006. The main part of the festival’s programme are the international competition of student etudes. They shall not exceed 30 minutes of duration, their production date shall be between 2004 – 2006, and they shall be made on 35mm, 16mm (with optical sound), Betacam SP (magnetic tape), and DVD. Filled in forms and the video tapes or DVD will be collected until of 1st October /I attached the regulation and the Entry Form/. The following Prizes will be awarded at “Etiuda 2006” competition: Grand Prix – Golden Dinosaur, Silver Dinosaur, Bronze Dinosaur, Special Golden Dinosaur for the Best Set of Films (at least 3 films in the competition), submitted by one of the European Film Schools. FESTIVAL
HISTORY This year celebrates the tenth anniversary of the Leicester International Short Film Festival. Last year saw nearly 300 films entered from 20 different countries. The 50 best of these were screened in competition over three evenings at the Phoenix Cinema, with another 30 worthy of special mention projected in the cinema lobby. Over 600 people attended the Festival from all over the country, including the film directors themselves, local dignitaries and regional arts organisations. Awards include Best in Festival, Audience Choice, Best Performance, Best Direction, Best Cinematography, Best Screenplay, Best Sound and Best Editing. Last year’s winner of Best in Festival, ‘El Descampado’ directed by Pedro Toucedo, has gone on to win a raft of awards from Best International Film at the Hull Short Film Festival, to a Special Prize for Best Film at the New York Short Film Festival. This shows how both the quality of entrants to CAN, and the Festival’s national and international standing, just keep improving. SUBMISSION PERIOD The submission period for films to be entered into the 2006 Can Film Festival is now open. We are accepting films from all over the world, local, national and international, to showcase them at the Phoenix Cinema on 27th, 28th and 29th October for the biggest and best film festival in the East Midlands. Submission closes on 1st August 2006, with a late date for extenuating circumstances of 8th August 2006. There is no limit to the amount of films a person can enter, and submission is deemed as permission to screen. Films should be no longer than 15 minutes long including titles and credits, on a submission copy of VHS or DVD. Submission forms are available online on the main news page at www.lineout.org, by telephone on 0116 262 1265 or by post at LineOut, Fosse Arts Centre, Mantle Road, Leicester LE3 5HG. The International Short Film Festival In the Palace evolved from a Student Short Film Festival and gradually became one of the most prestigious and recognized film festivals on the Balkans. Traditionally the festival will take place in Balchik (a picturesque small town at the Bulgarian seaside) in the Architectural park complex The Palace (former summer residence of the Romanian Queen in the beginning of the 20th century). This year’s edition of the festival will be in the period 2nd and 9th September. Good luck to all filmmakers and young artists. We hope to see you in the palace in September.
